The Lansing Community Library will be hosting a Zoom presentation with Mary Jo Dudley, the Director of the Cornell Farmworker Program and a faculty member in Cornell University’s Department of Global Development. She will help answer the question – Who Are The Immigrants In Our Community? and explain Why They Come & What They Do. This presentation is part of our 2023 Summer Reading Program which is focused on the theme “All Together Now.” Bring your curiosity and compassion and learn more about your neighbors’ lives, families, work, and cultures.
Ms. Dudley’s presentation will be via Zoom on Thursday, June 29th at 7:00pm.

As director of the Cornell Farmworker Program, Mary Jo focuses on improving the living and working conditions of farmworkers and their families. The program conducts research that examines the contributions of farmworkers to the economic and social fabric of New York State. This research provides guidance for the development of materials and activities (primarily on-farm workshops) that address farmworker concerns on topics related to health, safety, cultural, and immigration issues.
Mary Jo’s research on improving workplace relations engages farmers and farmworkers in discussions of workplace communication challenges and a joint exploration of strategies to improve the wellbeing of farmworkers. She is a member of the Finger Lakes Community Health Board of Directors and the chair of its Farmworker Committee. In 2022, Mary Jo was appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Administrator of the Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA) to the National Advisory Council on Migrant Health. The fifteen member council’s mission is to improve health services and conditions for agricultural migratory and seasonal workers and their families.
